Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed goaltenders Jean-Francois Berube and Dave Wilson to amateur tryout agreements, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. In addition, Manchester has released goaltender Matt Lopes from his amateur tryout agreement.
Berube, 18, has played the last two seasons with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Montreal Juniors. He has appeared in 45 games with Montreal this season, registering a 17-23-0 record with a 3.03 goals-against-average and a .897 save percentage. Selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (95th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-1, 155-pound native of Repentigay, Quebec collected a 22-32-0 record, a 2.99 goals-against-average and a .898 save percentage in 65 games with the Juniors from 2008-10. Berube will wear No. 1 for the Monarchs.
Wilson, 25, appeared in 13 games with the University of Maine Black Bears this season, collecting a 3-5-0 record with a 2.66 goals-against-average and a .888 save percentage. In four seasons with Maine, the 6-foot-1, 187-pound native of Caledon East, Ontario has an 8-19-1 record, a 3.02 goals-against-average and a .890 save percentage in 45 games throughout his college career. Wilson will wear No. 46 for the Monarchs.
Lopes, 25, made his professional debut on Wednesday night in relief of injured goaltender Jeff Zatkoff. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of East Falmouth, Massachusetts stopped 42-of-43 shots in the Monarchs 4-3 win over the Lowell Devils for his first professional win. With only one game under his belt, Lopes has a 1-0-0 record, a 1.10 goals-against-average and a .977 save percentage with the Monarchs.
The rookie goaltender served as the backup goaltender for the ECHL's Elmira Jackals and the CHL's Mississippi Riverkings this season but did not make it into a game. Lopes played the last two seasons with Gustavus Adolphus College and registered a 16-10-0 record with a 2.24 goals-against-average and a .899 save percentage in 27 games from 2007-09. Prior to attending Gustavus Adolphus College, he spent two seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Boston where he appeared in 20 games and collected a record of 0-13-2, a 5.48 goals-against-average and a .875 save percentage from 2005-07.
The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday, April 2 to face-off with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Catch all of the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGAM 900/1250 AM and at www.manchestermonarchs.com.
