Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose beat the Toronto Marlies by a 3-1 score in front of 3,526 fans at Ricoh Coliseum on Friday night. Kevin Clark opened the scoring with his second goal of the season while Mario Bliznak potted a pair of markers. Goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 33 of 34 shots in his 32nd victory this season.

Tim Brent's charging penalty at 6:16 put the Moose on the first powerplay of the game. The visitors were able to bring their shot count to five on the man-advantage, but couldn't beat Marlies goaltender James Reimer.

At 11:03, Manitoba returned the favor when Kevin Clark was locked up for hooking but like the Moose, the Marlies were unsuccessful on their first powerplay attempt.

With 2:44 to play in the opening period, the Moose opened the scoring. On their 11th shot of the game, Manitoba's Kevin Clark notched his second of the season when he snapped the puck over Reimer for a 1-0 lead.

The Moose extended their lead at 9:31 of the second stanza. Mario Bliznak's initial shot was denied by Reimer, but the centre man picked up his own rebound and connected on his second attempt for a 2-0 tally.

2:24 into the final frame, Mario Bliznak potted his second of the night when he chipped the puck behind Reimer from the doorstep. After the goal, the Moose were leading the game 3-0 and the shot clock 28-19.

With five minutes left to play, Toronto pulled Reimer for an extra attacker up front. The additional man helped the Marlies break their goose-egg when Ben Ondrus ruined Schneider's shutout streak with a Toronto goal at 15:55. Despite the last minute effort, the Marlies couldn't connect again and the Moose earned a 3-1 victory over Toronto.
