
Pirates Rally for Late Win

Springfield, MA - The Portland Pirates erupted for four unanswered third-period goals on their way to a 6-3 win over the Springfield Falcons in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 2,885 at the MassMutual Center.
Brad Larsen paced the offense with two goals to help the Pirates extend their points streak to nine games (7-0-1-1) and their winning streak to five straight. Portland is now 43-22-6-4 on the season and moved to within three points of first in the Atlantic Division after Worcester dropped a 3-1 decision to the Providence Bruins.
T.J. Brennen helped the Pirates cause with a goal and an assist while single goals went to Philip Gogulla, Cody McCormick and Travis Turnbull. Paul Byron chipped in with a pair of helpers.
Rob Hisey led the Falcons with a goal and an assist. Colton Fretter and Chris Minard also scored for Springfield, now 24-37-11-4. Gogulla opened the scoring halfway through the first period capitalizing on a neutral zone turnover to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. The Falcons tied it only 63 seconds later as Fretter struck to tie the game. Two minutes later Hisey struck on a power play to give Springfield a 2-1 lead after one. Larsen brought the Pirates back to even terms with a power-play goal in the opening minute of the second only to see Minard strike to restore a Springfield one goal lead (3-2) after two. McCormick the third-period uprising for the Pirates tying the game early in the third followed by goals by Turnbull, Larsen (his second) and Brennen (into an empty net). Springfield out shot the Pirates 27-18 in the game as J.P. Lamoureux posted the win. The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the Game were 1. Larsen, 2. Hisey and 3. Turnbull.
The Pirates get back at it tomorrow (Saturday) night when they travel to Bridgeport to take on the Sound Tigers at 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM or on-line at portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show 6:45 p.m. The next Pirates home game takes place Sunday when the Providence Bruins visit the CCCC for a 4 p.m. start. Celebrate Easter with the Pirates as the Easter Bunny will be in attendance to take pictures and interact with kids and, in the spirit of the holiday, the Good Sheppard Food Bank will be collecting food items for the less fortunate.
