Devils Turned Back By Wolf Pack, 5-2
April 2, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Lowell Devils were almost able to erase a three-goal deficit, but ultimately fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack, 5-2, on Friday at the XL Center. The Devils remain tied for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Down by a 3-0 margin in the third period, Olivier Magnan got Lowell on the board at 2:29 when he pinched down from the blue line to one-time a loose puck past Wolf Pack goaltender Chad Johsnon.
David McIntyre needed only 49 seconds to pull the Devils within one as his wrist shot from in close was seemingly heading wide, but clipped off the helmet off a fallen Nathan Perkovich and knuckled into the net for his second of the season.
Harford was able to retake their two-goal lead and go up 4-2 when Jeff Frazee couldn't cleanly handle Evgeny Grachev's wrist shot and Paul Crowder poked in the rebound at 11:35. Bobby Sanguinetti completed the scoring with 3:11 left in regulation. Lowell fired a team season-high 21 shots in the third period.
Holding a 1-0 edge heading into the second, the Wolf Pack quickly built a three-cushion thanks to a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the period. Ryan Garlock made it 2-0 for the Hartford at the 1:36 mark when his wraparound shot banked off a Devils defenseman and inside the near post.
Just over a minute later, Dale Weise added to the Wolf Pack's lead as his centering pass ricocheted right back to his stick and he snapped a shot from the near circle that found the back of the net.
Hartford knocked in the only goal of the first period with the lone man-advantage of the opening frame. Stationed at the far circle, Kris Newbury sent pass to the slot that pinching defenseman Ilkka Heikkinen redirected past Frazee at 7:02.
Frazee stopped 24 of 29 shots in the match as he took his third straight loss.
The Lowell Devils return to the Tsongas Center on Saturday, Apr. 3 to face the Worcester Sharks at 7:00PM. Tune into 1510AM or go online to AHLlive.com for all of the live Devils action. For tickets to Devils home games, call (978) 458-PUCK or go to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
