Norfolk Downs Albany 2-1

April 2, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release

ALBANY, NY-Justin Keller's second goal of the night snapped a 1-1 deadlock at 13:29 of the third period and the Norfolk Admirals held on for a 2-1 victory over the Albany River Rats on Friday night at the Times Union Center. The River Rats, however, still clinched a playoff berth, as both Bridgeport and Lowell lost their respective games in regulation.

Defenseman Matt Case sprung Keller on a breakaway with a sharp pass from his own goal line, and Keller snapped a laser to the top right corner for his 17th marker of the season and the eventual game-winner.

Albany drew first blood at 12:37 of the opening period, when Jacob Micflikier found Nicolas Blanchard all alone between the hash marks; the assistant captain took his time in picking a corner and fired a strike to the blocker side for a 1-0 River Rats lead. Keller responded for Norfolk at 16:03, guiding a centering feed from Blair Jones around Albany goalie Justin Peters.

Peters stopped 22-of-24 shots faced in the game and took the loss, as the River Rats fell to 41-28-3-5 this season. Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski turned aside 31-of-32 shots faced in his winning effort, as Norfolk improved to 37-32-3-3 this year. Albany out-shot the Admirals 32-24 in the game and went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Norfolk went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.

The River Rats play their final regular season home game in franchise history on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in Game 11 of the Time Warner Cable Cup series against the Adirondack Phantoms. 2010 Calder Cup playoff packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
