Admirals Earn Point in OT Loss to Peoria

Milwaukee, WI--The Milwaukee Admirals picked up a point in the standings with a 6-5 OT loss to Peoria on Friday night at the Bradley Center, lowering their magic number to six for the final spot in the post-season.

Marty Murray posted two goals, including the goal that took the game to OT with five seconds left, and added an assist for the Ads, who travel to Rockford tomorrow night, however it was Peoria's Pascal Pelletier who provided heroics of his own with a breakaway overtime goal that won the game for the Rivermen.

Peoria jumped out in front of Milwaukee early in the contest. The Rivermen controlled the puck well in the Admiral's zone until Ian Cole let loose a slap shot from on top of the right circle. The puck slammed off a Milwaukee defensemen's skate and slid to the left circle where Peoria's Jonas Junland ripped off a shot that beat Mark Dekanich's left pad for an early 1-0 Peoria lead.

Not wanting to let this important contest get out of reach, the Ads answered back quickly with an intelligent goal of their own. Chris Mueller was able to hold his position in front of the crease long enough for Hugh Jessiman to find him with a well placed, airborne pass that Mueller reached out and tipped into the net past a lunging Joe Fallon. The goal tied the game at one apiece in the early going.

With only seconds left in the period Peoria tacked on another one. Crashing toward the net, Peoria's Chris Porter hit Cam Paddock. Paddock poked the puck past the Admirals net minder with just 37 seconds left to play in the first.

After struggling early on the power play the Ads got it together. Jon Blum found veteran Marty Murray at the left dot and Murray ripped a one-timer past Fallon's glove for a power play equalizer at 6:10 of the second.

Whatever momentum the Ads had taken from the Murray goal was halted when Peoria's Tyson Strachan, fresh out of the penalty box, beat Dekanich over his stick to put the Rivermen back on top 3-2.

The Strachan goal prompted Milwaukee Head Coach Lane Lambert to make a change in net. Chet Pickard was substituted for Mark Dekanich at the 6:21 mark of the second period.

On the heels of the net change, the Ads rallied to tie the score yet again. Milwaukee newcomer Ryan Thang recorded his first professional goal. After Peoria turned over the puck in their own zone Thang was able to coral the rebound of a Mark Van Guilder shot and drive the puck past Fallon for a 3-3 score midway through the second period.

With under a minute remaining in an action packed second period, Andreas Thuresson put Milwaukee on top for the first time on the night. Thuresson corralled the rebound off of Fallon's pad and slid the puck five-hole for a 4-3 lead heading into the second intermission.

Peoria came out in the third period and kept grinding. Tallying a power-play goal after Milwaukee's Murray was sent to the box on a four minute high-sticking penalty. Peoria's Derek Armstrong got in the scoring column, scooping up a loose puck and wristing it past Pickard and into the net to tie the game at four.

Lars Eller notched a goal 15:24 of the third that gave the Rivermen a 5-4 lead. Admirals defenseman Nolan Yonkman's clearing attempt from behind the net richocted off of Pierre-Cedric Labrie skate and right out to Eller, who caught Pickard out of position for the goal.

Milwaukee came up with the improbable equalizer late in the third. With less than ten seconds remaining and with their goalie pulled, Milwaukee put on the all out push to force overtime. With time running out Jon Blum deked, side stepped a Peoria defender and found Marty Murray on the edge of the crease for Murray's second goal of the night, sending the Ads to their second overtime period in as many games.

In the end Peoria's Pascal Pelletier had the final say in this contest. The Peoria winger came hard charging out of the penalty box. Pelletier grabbed a loose puck that hopped the stick of Robert Dietrich and skated all the way to the Milwaukee net where he beat Pickard to the left post and tallied the game winning goal for Peoria.

The Admirals head to Rockford tomorrow night before hosting Peoria again on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
