INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI - The Missouri Mavericks edged the Evansville IceMen 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena-the first of two games this weekend against Evansville.

The home team held a tight contest with their visitors through regulation, owning a 1-goal lead in the final minutes of the third period, before Evansville forced an overtime decision by tying the game 3-3 with 2:06 left on the clock.

Sebastien Sylvestre scored the game-winning tally with an unassisted drive at the Evansville net 3:39 into overtime.

Jesse Root scored two goals during the Saturday night contest, tying the game in the second period (assisted by Sebastien Sylvestre and Kellen Jones), and scoring an unassisted lamp-lighter to give the Mavs a lead after some back-and-forth scoreboard control and a third period goal from Zach Tolkinen (assisted by Rocco Carzo and Ross Johnston).

The Mavericks play their next game tomorrow night at 4:05p.m. at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive the second set of a trading card giveaway featuring six more professional hockey teams in Kansas City hockey history!
