Eagles Surrender Three Goals in Second Period in 6-3 Loss to Wings

(Kalamazoo, MI) - The Kalamazoo Wings utilized a three-goal second period to defeat the Colorado Eagles 6-3 at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo on Saturday. Wings forward Alex Mallet led the way for Kalamazoo with a goal and three assists in the contest.

Kalamazoo would get the scoring started on the powerplay, as forward Dane Fox grabbed the puck in the high-slot and sent a slapshot past Eagles goaltender Eric Levine to give the Wings the 1-0 advantage just 5:57 into the first period.

Less than seven minutes later, Colorado would earn their first powerplay of the game and forward Everett Sheen would jam home the puck during a goal-mouth scramble to tie the game at 1-1.

With score knotted up at 1-1 after the opening 20 minutes, Kalamazoo would come out firing in the second period. The Wings reclaimed the lead just 18 seconds into the middle frame when defenseman Anton Cederholm sent a wrister into the back of the net from the right wing to make it 2-1 Kalamazoo.

Just over four minutes later, Kalamazoo forward Colin Murray beat Levine on the short-side to grow the Wings lead to 3-1.

Kalamazoo then found themselves on their second powerplay of the night and again they would light the lamp on the man-advatange, as forward Curtis Valk unleashed a shot from the left circle that would find the twine and give the Wings the 4-1 edge with 13:27 left to play in the second period.

Colorado would find some momentum late in the period, as forward Kyle Kraemer snagged a loose puck off a rebound in the low-slot and threw it into the net, slicing the Kalamazoo lead to 4-2 with 2:13 to play in the period.

Already leading by a pair after two periods, the Wings would again find an early goal to start the third period, as Mallet would field a pass from the blue line on the wide side post, tipping it past Levine and making it 5-2 Kalamazoo just 1:09 into the final stanza.

Colorado would strike back, as forward Trent Daavettila tucked a loose puck in the crease into the back of the cage to pull the Eagles to within two at 5-3 with 8:11 remaining in the contest.

Kalamazoo still had one more goal left in their arsenal, however, as forward Ludwig Blomstrand snagged a rebound in the slot and snapped it home to give the Wings a 6-3 lead, which they would hold until the final buzzer.

Colorado finished the night 2-for-3 on the powerplay, while the Wings converted on two of their six opportunities on the man-advantage.

The Eagles continue conclude their four-game roadtrip at Memorial Coliseum in Ft. Wayne, Indiana against the Ft. Wayne Komets on Sunday at 3:00pm MST.
