Late Third Period Goal Lifts Walleye to a 4-3 Win over Fort Wayne

(Toledo, OH) The thirteenth sellout this season plus both A.J. Jenks and Shane Berschbach scored twice to lead Toledo to a 4-3 win over Fort Wayne Saturday at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 31-14-2-3 and 18-5-1-0 at home.

The Komets struck first as Jamie Schaafsma beat Walleye goaltender Jake Paterson with a slap shot at 8:06 of the first period. Shane Berschbach (18th) tied the score when rifled a Zach Nastasiuk pass into the back of the net at 10:31.

Toledo took a 2-1 lead when A.J. Jenks sent his own rebound past Komets net minder Spencer Martin at 6:33 of the second period for a power play goal. Fort Wayne evened the score with a goal at 11:13 of the frame.

In the third period, Fort Wayne's Cody Sol blasted a shot from the blue line that beat Paterson to give the Komets a 3-2 lead. Jenks (18th) tied the game with a perfect backhanded shot at 12:20. With the Walleye n the power play Berschbach raced into the Komets and did a toe drag to free himself for a wrist shot that found the back of the net with 1:13 left in the game.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson secured his tenth victory of the season with 25 saves on 28 Fort Wayne shots and his record stands at 10-8-1-1. Tonight's win was the eighth consecutive home win for the Walleye breaking the old Toledo Walleye record of seven that was set from January 25 through March 1, 2015. The 8,300 was the 13th sellout this season which is also most in a single season breaking the old single season record of 12 set in 2009-10 and equaled during the 2014-15 season.
