Kalamazoo Wings News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Kalamazoo Wings were led by three points from defenseman Adam Phillips, and skated past the Wheeling Nailers, 4-3, on Friday night at WesBanco Arena.

The Nailers started the scoring on their home ice early in period number one. Adam Krause was able to beat Kalamazoo starter, Joel Martin, just 1:33 into the opening frame to give Wheeling a quick edge.

The Wheeling lead held until Kalamazoo's second power play opportunity of the first period. Evan McEneny floated a pass across the rink to Ludwig Blomstrand, who hammered a slap shot that was kicked away, but the save created a generous rebound that was knifed in by Dane Fox. It was Fox's second goal of the season and second in as many games.

Early in the second frame, Kalamazoo boosted their lead to a goal as Phillips capitalized on a loose puck in the high slot area. Phillips dropped to a knee and snapped a wrister past Wheeling goaltender, Frankie Palazzese. It was Phillips' team-leading third goal of the season and gave the Wings a 2-1 advantage.

Wheeling wouldn't be silenced for long, as the Nailers were able to find an equalizer in the form of a Ty Loney power play marker. Loney deflected a slap shot off the tape of Anton Zlobin and into the top corner over the glove of Martin. The 2-2 score held throughout the remainder of the middle stanza and into the third.

While skating at four apiece, the Nailers would take their first and only lead of the game. Sahir Gill capitalized on the open space and was able to beat Martin with a quick snap shot from the slot while skating on a two-on-one.

It would be all Kalamazoo through the finish, as Phillips scored his second of the game after smashing a one-timer from the top of the left circle while on the power play with 13 minutes remaining in the game.

With the game deadlocked at three, Kalamazoo would get the eventual game winner, courtesy of Ludwig Blomstrand, just four minutes later. Blomstrand carried the puck into the Wheeling end and uncorked a shot that found the back of the goal.
