Americans Open Weekend Series Against Rapid City Rush
November 6, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Rapid City, South Dakota - The Allen Americans (5-3-0) and Rapid City Rush (4-3-0) open a two-game weekend set tonight in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Puck drop from the Rushmore Civic Center is 8:05 pm CST.
Old Division Rival - The Americans and Rush are former Central Division foes. Rapid City moved to the West Division of the Western Conference this season. The two clubs met in the 2010 Presidents' Cup Finals in the Central Hockey League, with Rapid City coming out on top in six games.
Righting the Ship - The Americans suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss to Tulsa on Tuesday night in the first of the three-game road trip. Allen tied a season low with just 17 shots on goal, while going 0 for 3 on the power play.
Back on Top - After getting off to a slow start this season, Americans forward and last year's ECHL scoring champion, Chad Costello, is now tied with Greger Hanson for the team lead in points with seven. Costello has a team leading four-game point streak.
Familiar Faces - The current Rapid City Rush roster has several ties to Allen; Kale Kerbashian, who won two championships with the Americans in 2013 & 2014, is currently on the 21-day IR for Rapid City. Dallas native, Nolan Descoteaux, has played in six games for the Rush this season and has two points. Garrett Clarke, who was traded to Rapid City last week, has one goal and three assists in five total games this season.
Lack of Power - The Americans power play ranks 22nd overall in the ECHL this season at 10.8%. Allen has managed just four power play goals in thirty seven attempts. Gary Steffes, currently on a PTO with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL, has three of Allen's four power play goals this season.
