BRAMPTON, ON - The Manchester Monarchs couldn't hold on to a 2-1 lead Friday night, and fell to the Brampton Beast, 4-2, at the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario.

The Monarchs (2-3-0-0) dropped their first game to the Beast (2-5-1-0) this season, after beating Brampton on Opening Night.

The Beast took the early lead in this one, potting the first goal of the night at 4:31 of the first period. Luc-Olivier Blain scored his first goal of the season on a rebound off of Monarchs goalie Michael Houser. Blain was camped in front of the net and found the loose puck on his tape. With Houser down from making the initial save, Blain flipped the puck into the open net for the early 1-0 Brampton lead.

The Monarchs came storming back to tie the game when David Kolomatis scored his first goal of the season. The captain took a pass from Joe Diamond, walked the blue line, and fired a wrist shot past Brampton goalie, Trevor Cann, at 12:41 of the first period.

After going 0-for-14 on the man-advantage through the first four games, Diamond finally broke the ice for the Monarchs at 18:07 of the first period. Alex Lintuniemi started the possession in the Brampton end finding Matt Leitner streaking down the right boards. Leitner, then made a move to the net, and hit Diamond with a pass just to the right of the cage. Diamond didn't hesitate with the puck, immediately taking a strong step across the goal mouth, sweeping the puck around Cann for the 2-1 lead.

Brampton scored the equalizer 4:22 into the second period, when Mathew Maione netted his second of the season on the power play. After multiple saves by Houser, Maione found the one opportunity that got away from the Monarchs goalie, sending a rebound past the diving Houser, squaring the game at 2-2.

Brampton broke the tie just 3:34 into the third period, when Jeremie Blain sent in his first goal of the season, finally beating Houser who was standing on his head. After three great saves, a shot that was blocked by Josh Brown trickled to the stick of Blain, who sent the game-winner past Houser from the right circle.

Despite heavy pressure by the Monarchs with Houser pulled for an extra attacker, Brampton put the game away at 19:49 on an empty net goal by Mark MacMillan.

The Monarchs are back on the ice Saturday night (7:15 p.m.), as they face the Beast in the second game of the three-game series from the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario.
