South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that forward Andrew Rowe, the club's leading scorer and team captain last season, has been loaned to South Carolina by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rowe has rejoined the Stingrays and will serve as the club's captain again this season.
Rowe, 27, scored a team-best 56 points (17 goals, 39 assists) in only 44 games last season for the Stingrays. Rowe posted 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists) in 27 playoff games as South Carolina advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals. During the 2014-2015 season, Rowe also appeared in 28 games for the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL, scoring five points.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound veteran has registered 201 career points in 186 ECHL games. For three straight seasons, Rowe has led his ECHL club in points. He posted 72 points with Elmira in 2012-2013, 66 points with Greenville in 2013-2014 and 56 points with South Carolina last season.
The Muskegon, Mich. native turned pro in 2010 after a standout three-year NCAA career at Michigan State. He has skated in 129 career AHL games, but had yet to appear in a game with Bridgeport this season as he recovered from injury.
Rowe will once again wear #9 for South Carolina this season.
The Stingrays host Elmira this evening at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Tonight's game is a Rays 4 Pack game featuring an amazing deal.
