Tulsa Oilers News Release
WHERE EAGLES FLY
Tonight's matchup is the first of four meetings this season between the Oilers and the Eagles and the first of back-to-back this weekend at the Budweiser Events Center. Tulsa and Colorado are facing off for the first time since March 12, 2011 when both squads were members of the Central Hockey League. Between 2003 and 2011, the clubs clashed 42 times and the Oilers' all-time record against the Eagles is 11-27-4. The Oilers have won two in a row and sit above .500 for the first time this season while the Eagles have only one victory in their first eight games and have suffered four, one-goal defeats.
LAST TIME OUT
Tuesday night on home ice, the Oilers earned a 3-1 win over the Allen Americans. Jordan Kremyr put Tulsa on the board just 11 seconds into the contest and the Oilers held the Americans to only 17 shots on goal, the lowest shot total of any opponent this season. Phil Brewer and Nathan Lutz rounded out the goal-scoring for the Oilers while Adam Pleskach dished out a pair of assists to help the Oilers improve to 2-1 against their Central Division rival.
KREMYR'S CONTRIBUTION
After playing the first six games of the season without registering a point, Jordan Kremyr scored a goal and chipped in two assists in Tuesday's win over Allen to become the first Oilers' player this season with three points in a single game. The 29-year old winger finished the evening at +3, the highest single-game plus-minus rating of any Tulsa player through the first seven games.
KEEP OUT
Second-year goalie Kevin Carr is 2-1 on the season and ranks third in the ECHL with a 1.34 goals against average. The Unionville, Ontario native has surrendered only goal in his last 120 minutes of action and boasts a .971 save percentage during that span.
TRENDING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
Since dropping their first two games of the season the Oilers have won four of their last five contests. In those four victories, the Oilers have outscored their opponents 11-5 and have successfully killed off 11 of their opponents' 12 power play opportunities.
MOVING ON UP
Forward Ben Walker and defenseman Brennan Serville have been recalled by the Manitoba Moose, the Oilers' American Hockey League affiliate. Walker, 22, recorded three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in seven games with Tulsa and Serville, a 2011 draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, put up a pair of assists and a +2 rating in seven games.
STRIKE FIRST
The Oilers are 4-0 this season when scoring the first goal of the game.
OIL DROPS
Brandon Wong leads the Oilers with five points and is just one goal shy of 100 for his career...The Oilers rank fourth in the ECHL on the penalty kill with a 90-percent success rate...Each one of the Oilers' games this season has been decided by two goals or fewer... Head Coach Jason Christie needs only five more victories to break the ECHL record for all-time coaching wins...Tulsa has not scored more than three goals in regulation in any game this season.
