Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

Cincinnati, OH-The Cincinnati Cyclones (4-1-0-1) earned a 4-2 win over the Adirondack Thunder on Friday night. Forwards Joe Pendenza and Jack Downing each had a pair of goals for the Cyclones.

After the Thunder took an early 1-0 lead 10:31 into the opening period on a goal from Alex Carrier, the Cyclones' power play came to life, as a shot from forward Zach Budish bounced off of Adirondack netminder Ken Appleby right to Pendenza, who stuffed into the net, tying the game, 1-1, 14:01 into the frame.

Cincinnati's power play was not finished, as just 2:11 later, defenseman Steve Weinstein sent a cross-ice pass to Downing, who blasted a one-timer past Appleby, putting the Cyclones up, 2-1, after 20 minutes.

After a back-and forth second period that saw neither team register a goal, the Thunder evened things up at two goals apiece with under five minutes left in regulation, when Carrier beat Cyclones goaltender Brad Thiessen for the second time in the game.

Cincinnati was not deterred, as with just 14 seconds left, forward Joe Wilson sent a pass to Pendenza in the high slot and Pendenza fired a bomb into the net, giving the Cyclones the lead back, 3-2, late in the frame.

With five seconds left and Appleby pulled, defenseman Garrett Noonan sent shot from the Cincinnati zone that banked off the Adirondack end boards right to Downing who was following up the play, and he buried it in the open net, sealing the Cyclones' 4-2 win.

The Cyclones were outshot, 33-31, on the night, with Thiessen stopping 31 to earn his fourth win of the season. The power play converted on 2-of-4 chances, while the penalty kill was a perfect 4-for-4. The Cyclones wrap up their busy three-game week Saturday night against the Evansville IceMen, at U.S. Bank Arena at 7:30pm.
