Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators announced today they have traded future considerations to the Toledo Storm for Paul Ballantyne. The 6-3, 204-lb defenseman from Waterloo, Ontario has played 54 games with the Toledo Storm, amassing 36 points (13g – 23a).

Ballantyne, a Detroit Red Wings prospect, has played five games with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League this season. Now in his second year of professional hockey, the two-way defenseman began his career with a four-season stint with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

"We felt we needed to solidify our defense for a strong playoff run, with both Kevin Mitchell and Ben Storey called up to Houston. Paul Ballentyne will give us tremendous depth at the blue line," said IceGators head coach Dave Farrish. "Ballentyne gives us a powerful right-handed shot from the point and we expect to be able to use him on the power play. Having a strong shot from the right side will give us a few new options with a power play unit that is already very good."

The IceGators will welcome the Columbus Cottonmouths on March 17 at 7:05 p.m. The St. Patrick's Day game will feature a costume contest and $2 green beer. Wear green and get $2 off game tickets at the Cajundome box office.
