
Legace Named DIRECTV/NHL® CENTER ICE® ECHL Alumnus of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former Richmond and current Detroit goaltender Manny Legace is the DIRECTV/NHL® CENTER ICE® ECHL Alumnus of the Month for February.
The DIRECTV/NHL® CENTER ICE® ECHL Alumnus of the Month is awarded to a former ECHL player currently playing in the National Hockey League. There have been 248 former ECHL players that have gone on to play in the NHL.
Legace was 7-2-0 with a goals against average of 1.97 and a save percentage of .929 in nine games in February. Legace is 19-7-5 with two shutouts, a goals against average of 1.88 and a save percentage of .929 in 33 games with Detroit in 2003-04.
The 31-year-old Legace is in his fourth full season and fifth season overall with Detroit. He is 71-23-16 with five shutouts, a goals against average of 2.11 and a save percentage of .921 in 121 career regular season games with the Red Wings. He first appeared in the NHL with Los Angeles in 1998-99 going 2-9-2 with a goals against average of 2.60 and a save percentage of .911 in 17 games.
Legace became the fifth ECHL alumnus to hoist the Stanley Cup as a member of the Red Wings in 2002. For the fourth straight year in 2003, a former ECHL player was part of the NHL Champion when Corey Schwab of the New Jersey Devils became the sixth ECHL alumnus to hoist the Stanley Cup. David Aebischer and Nolan Pratt (Colorado, 2001), Krzysztof Oliwa (New Jersey, 2000), and Kevin Dean (New Jersey, 1995) are the other ECHL alumni that have hoisted the Stanley Cup.
Selected in the eighth round (188th overall) by the Hartford Whalers in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Legace was 2-1-0 with a goals against average of 3.05 and a save percentage of .869 in three regular season games with Richmond of the ECHL in 1996-97.
