March 16, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads today swapped defensemen with the Long Beach Ice Dogs, sending Michael Vyhlidal to Southern California in exchange for Dan Vandermeer.
Vyhlidal, a 6'2, 200 pound Czech native, tallied 16 points (3 goals, 13 assists) and 34 penalty minutes with Idaho in 59 games played. Prior to playing in North America this season, Vyhlidal played several years in the Czech League, including stints on the Czech National Team in 1992-93, and on the 2001-02 and 2002-03 Czech All Star Team.
Vandermeer is an Alberta, Canada native and has played all of the 2003-04 season with Long Beach. In 61 games, the 5'11 defenseman recorded 29 points (6 goals, 23 assists) and 115 penalty minutes. Vandermeer spent most of his career (288 games over five seasons) with the ECHL's Richmond Renegades, tallying 103 points (26 goals, 77 assists) and 730 penalty minutes. Of interest, Vandermeer has several brothers currently playing professional hockey, including the ECHL (Peoria), AHL (Philadelphia) and NHL (Philadelphia).
Vandermeer will join the Steelheads in Bakersfield for tomorrow night's game. Puck drops at 8:00 p.m. MST, and can be heard live with Britt Talbert calling all the action on ESPN 1350 KTIK or via the Internet through the Steelheads website, www.idahosteelheads.com or by logging on to www.ktik.com.
