$10,050 Raised in Jersey Auction on Sunday
Funds raised will benefit CASA
The Condors hosted a Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction on Sunday afternoon, February 29th, and $10,050 was raised for the CASA of Kern County.
The jerseys were worn on Saturday and Sunday, with the auction taking place after the game on Sunday, February 29th. That day was, of course, Leap Day, and the team's jerseys featured a Leap Year theme. KLLY 95.3 and O'Leary's Office Products sponsored the jerseys. It is the second year in a row the Condors have held a jersey auction to benefit CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. In addition to the auction, five jerseys were raffled off to fans in attendance at the game.
"We were just thrilled to see the excitement on the faces of the people who won the jerseys," said Rick Alvarado, volunteer recruiter with CASA. "At the same time, their generosity will go a long way toward helping out our charity. We were able to recruit some volunteers at the game as well, and it was a great night."
The largest bid drawn was for defenseman Quinn Fair, whose jersey brought in $900 alone. Paul Willett, whose jersey raised $750, is still the all-time leader in Condors jersey auction history, with $13,350 total. Paul Rosebush is second on the list at $12,800.
Tip-A-Condor raises over $7,000!
The fifth annual Tip-A-Condor dinner was held at the Crystal Palace. Sponsored by KUZZ 107.9, this year's event benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation and raised a Tip-A-Condor record of $7,431. The charity dinner featured Condors players posing as waiters for an evening, serving food and drinks to patrons. A live auction was held after the dinner.
Andrew Ianeiro's game worn ECHL All-Star jersey highlighted the auction with a bid of $825. Plus, this year, in addition to Condors players showing off their singing talents as Karaoke singers, fans were serenaded by the sweet vocals of Kevin Bartl, Voice of the Condors and Michael Reeves, Corporate Account Manager for the Condors.
Blitz Introduce a New Look for 2004
Change in logo ready to go
The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 have introduced a brand new look for 2004. A change in colors to the current logo has been set, and there will be a new design to the uniforms.
The logo features navy blue, burgundy and silver, replacing the old colors of blue, powder blue, red and orange. The burgundy is the same burgundy used by the University of Southern California while the silver is the same used by the Oakland Raiders.
The team's jersey will also be redesigned for this season. They will be unveiled in the near future.
"We've experienced a change of identity off the field, so we wanted that to translate on the field as well." Says Bakersfield Sports Entertainment President Matthew Riley, "It was important when choosing new colors, not only that they look good, but that they tie in with great football traditions, the burgundy of USC and the Oakland Raiders silver do that. It's definitely a Super Bowl Champions New England Patriots look. In addition the numbers on our jersey will be in the style of the San Francisco 49ers. We've a change of identity off the field, so we wanted that to translate on the field as well."
The home opener for the Blitz is on Saturday, April 17th when their rivals from San Diego, the Riptide come into town. Season tickets for the Blitz upcoming season start at just $63, and are on sale now by contacting the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548) or by stopping by the Bakersfield Sports Entertainment office located in Centennial Garden. The Blitz and Condors have also teamed up for special discounts for those purchasing ticket packages for both teams. All Condors season ticket holders that have renewed for 2004-05 can receive 25% off a Blitz package containing the same number of seats.
