Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA- The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that several characters from the cult hockey film "Slapshot," will be in attendance at their Saturday, March 27th game versus the Trenton Titans (7:05 p.m.).
Among the cast attending are the Sparkle Twins (Louise and Janet Arters), Yvon Barrette (Denis Lemieux), former Johnstown Jet Guido Tenesi (Billy Charlebois), Paul D'Amato (Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken), Chris Murney (Hanrahan) and TV announcer Jon McClintock. Tentatively scheduled to appear Andy Duncan (Jim Carr), Mark Bousquet (Andre "Poodle" Luscier), Woody Espy (stick boy), former Johnstown Jet John Gofton (Hanrahan), and Bill "Goldie" Goldthorpe (the player Ogie Ogelthorpe was based on).
Prior to the game, a special ceremony with the cast members will be held. Throughout the first period there will be an autograph session. Raffles will be setup for prizes including memorabilia from the movie. Proceeds from the raffles will go to Sparkle Twin Louise Arters and her battle with MS. Arters is currently in the need of a special handicap van that cost over $50,000. So far approximately $22,000 has been raised towards the cost of the new van.
"Slapshot," starring Paul Newman, was released in 1977 by Universal pictures. The film was based on the NAHL's Johnstown Jets. Much of the movie was filmed in and around Johnstown.
The Chiefs will issue a more detailed press release about the game early next week.
The Chiefs are back in action Wednesday night when they travel to Atlantic City for a 7:00 p.m. game. Sunday, March 28th is Jeff Sullivan bobble head and Fan Appreciation Day. The first 2,000 fans through the gate will receive a limited edition Jeff Sullivan bobble head doll. In addition, hundreds of prizes will be given away at random for fans.
