NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Curtis Huppe scored two third period goals and assisted on another to break a 1-1 tie and lift South Carolina to a 4-1 victory over Alaska Tuesday at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Boris Protsenko opened the scoring for the Stingrays just 67 seconds into the game by backhanding home a rebound, but the Aces rallied as Malcolm Hutt scored his first professional goal on a drive from the top of the right circle with 2:01 left in the second period. Huppe broke the 1-1 tie just 3:57 into the final period, and scored an insurance goal six minutes later to give South Carolina a 3-1 bulge. An empty-netter by Ed Courtenay with 1:10 to go, assisted by Huppe sealed the victory for the ‘Rays, who were outshot by Alaska 33-29. Dan Murphy took the loss in net for the Aces despite 25 saves.

Just hours before what Alaska and the ECHL anticipated would be the trading deadline (later extended to Thursday), the Aces picked up Garrett Prosofsky from the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations prior to the 2004-05 season. Prosofsky, Cincinnati's leading scorer with 50 points (22g-28a) this season, scored four goals and assisted on four others with a +6 rating last weekend in Anchorage as the Cyclones took two of three games from Alaska. He was named ECHL Player of the Week earlier this afternoon and although currently on a call-up to Springfield, Mass. (AHL), Prosofsky could be in the Aces' lineup by next week.

The Aces (32-26-4) continue their Eastern swing tomorrow night against Roanoke at 3:00 p.m. AST. The contest will be broadcast live on KHAR 590 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Friday's rematch against the Stingrays also airs on KHAR but starts a half hour later, at 3:30 p.m. AST. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
