Ice Dogs Downed By Gulls, 4-1

Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release


LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (20-11-3) fell Friday night to the San Diego Gulls (18-11-4) for the first time in regulation this season. The Ice Dogs, who had won 11 of their last 14 were unable to get past San Diego, who have now won two in-a- row.

San Diego opened the scoring at 8:38 of the first period on a goal by Scott Borders. Then at 9:07 of the second, Curtis Brown scored unassisted from the right face off circle. Brian Gornick made it 3-0 less than four minutes into the third before Joe Cardarelli finally got the Ice Dogs on the board at 4:44. However, less than a minute later Brian Gornick scored his second of the game to seal the game at 4-1.

Chris Madden, who was replaced in the third period by Olivier Michaud, took the loss with 23 saves. Eddy Ferhi of San Diego made 26 saves for the win. Neither team converted on the power play, as the Ice Dogs went 0-1 and the Gulls went 0-4. The Ice Dogs remain in second place in the West Division with 43 points, while San Diego remains in fourth with 40.

The Ice Dogs' next game is tomorrow night when the Victoria Salmon Kings come back to town. So far this season, Long Beach is 5-0-0 against Victoria, who they will play the next four games in a row. Call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
