
Center Evangelista Claimed Off Waivers from Louisiana

Peoria, Ill. (January 15, 2005) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that seventh-year center John Evangelista has been claimed off waivers from the Louisiana IceGators.
Evangelista â a 5-foot-10, 187-pound native of St. Catharines, Ontario â posted five points (1g, 4a) and 44 penalty minutes (PIM) in 31 games with Louisiana to open the season. The 29-year-old center spent most of the last five years with the Mississippi Sea Wolves, registering 114 points (40g, 74a) in 252 games.
Evangelista enjoyed a four-year NCAA Division I career at Mercyhurst College of the Atlantic Hockey Conference, collecting 154 points (57g, 97a) in 103 career games. He was a two-time (1996-1998) Second Team American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA) All-American in the College Division in his junior and senior seasons while at Mercyhurst.
The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen host the Trenton Titans tonight â Saturday, January 15 â in the second of two in a row between the clubs. Game time is 8:00 p.m. due to Bradley University Basketball. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Trevor Baker Wobblehead, courtesy of CEFCU.
