IceGators zoom past Sea Wolves 5-2

Lafayette, LA - The Louisiana IceGators completed a home and home sweep of the Mississippi Sea Wolves as Mark Rooneem scored twice and the power play went 3 for 3 in a 5-2 win on NASCAR night at the Cajundome.

The Sea Wolves jumped out to a 2-1 first period lead with two late goals. The IceGators scored first as Randy Dagenais scored a power play goal at the 7:11 mark on a slap shot from the right point. Roger Leonard getting the only assist as he won the draw back to Dagenais who dented the net for his 8th of the season. The Gators held the Sea Wolves without a shot for 12 minutes in the period but Mississippi broke though with two goals on their next two shots. At 17:09 Chris Cava (4) scored on a rebound to tie the game. Just 25 seconds later, Kerry Ellis-Toddington (6) slipped a shot between the legs of Nathan Marsters to give the Sea Wolves a 2-1 lead after the first 20 minutes.

Te Gators took a 3-2 lead after two periods as the team continued to score on the power play. At 2:56, Chris Thompson (9) one timed a perfect pass from Wes Mason past Jason Wolf for a power play goal and a 2-2 tie. With the goal Thompson becomes the first Gator this season to score a goal in three consecutive games. The "Hinton Connection" of Mark Rooneem and Jade Galbraith provided the 3rd power play tally of the night. Rooneem, breaking to the net, was hit on the tape by a Galbraith pass and the rookie wristed home his 6th of the year for a 3-2 lead.

The boys from Hinton teamed up for the only goal of the 3rd period. At 9:52 Galbraith won a battle for the puck at center ice and sent the puck to Rooneem, who went backhand for his 2nd of the night and a 4-2 lead. Wes Mason (17) added an empty netter to make the final score 5-2. Louisiana's record is now 16-17-3, 35 points and a tie for 4th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Mississippi 35-30. Power plays were 3-3 for the Gators and 0-3 for the Sea Wolves. The Gators next game is 2,000 miles away as the team will take on the San Diego Gulls at 9:05 CST.
