Lynx acquire defenseman from Royals

Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx announced today that they have dealt forward Mike Sandbeck to the Reading Royals in exchange for rookie defenseman Joe Markusen.
Markusen, 24, turned pro this season after spending four years at Michigan State University. Starting his season with Long Beach, the 6-0, 185 lb. blueliner played only one game for the Ice Dogs before heading to Reading, where he appeared in ten games, registering an assist, two PIMs and a +1 rating.
"We need help defensively," said Lynx head coach Stan Drulia in regards to having two defensemen on the injured reserve list and two more out of the lineup. "Sandbeck played very well for us, filling in on "D" and giving us a great presence in the faceoff circle. But we needed to get stronger back there, and Markusen fit the bill."
Sandbeck appeared in 34 games with Augusta this season, scoring one goal and eight points along with 49 PIMs. His contributions to the team came not only at center but also on defense, where he spent several recent games filling in and providing the Lynx with some help while injuries have ravaged the defensive corps. The 27 year-old Mossbank, Saskatchewan native will now join his fifth ECHL team, having played with New Orleans, Arkansas, Fresno, and Augusta.
The Lynx are back in action tonight against the South Carolina Stingrays, who bring a four game winning streak to the game tonight. Faceoff is slated for 7:35 pm, and tickets are available in all price ranges for the contest through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com. Seats are $10, $13, and $14, with discounts available to students, seniors, military personnel, and Comcast cable subscribers!
