Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings went to Las Vegas looking for their first two points of the New Year, but squandered a two goal lead late in the third period and had to settle for a single.

The Salmon Kings took the early first period lead on defenseman Nate Forster's power-play marker at 3:47, assisted by Seth Leonard and Ryan Wade. Then half way through the period the Salmon Kings extended it 2-0, when Peter Trumbley and Ryan Wade set Ryan Finnerty's tenth of the season.

Goaltender Jason Stone had his first rest since taking over the number one spot from David Brumby 22 games ago, in favor of newcomer Kelly Shields. Both Shields and Wranglers netminder Sebastian Centomo kept the offence off the scoreboard in the second and the Salmon Kings took their lead into the third period.

Victoria was out-shot 25-15 through two periods. Shields was unable to keep his shutout bid going though in the third, when Dustin Johner and Chris Stanley set up Shawn Limpright's seventh of the season at 11:45, and the Wranglers were back knocking at the door.

The Salmon Kings were able to keep Las Vegas at bay until 19:28 when Jeff Attard notched his ninth of the season and Chris Stanley and Shawn Limpright added their second points of the game with assists on the goal. The Salmon Kings and the Wranglers headed to overtime tied at two.

Then with the Salmon Kings on the power-play in the extra period, at 1:21, Jeff Attard put the puck past Shields for the win. Victoria was out-shot by the Wranglers 45-28 in the overtime loss and they have finally got past seventeen points a hump that has seemed like a mountain of late.

The Salmon Kings continue their road trip in Long Beach on Saturday January 15th and Sunday January 16th before returning home to face the Ice Dogs on Tuesday January 18th at Bear Mountain Arena. Tickets are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
