Royals Trades Defenseman to Augusta for Forward

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that they have traded the rights of defenseman Joe Markusen to Augusta for forward Mike Sandbeck.

Sandbeck, 27, has appeared in 34 games with the Lynx this season. He has one goal and eight points with 49 minutes in penalties. The fourth-year professional has also played for the New Orleans Brass, Arkansas Riverblades and Fresno Falcons of the ECHL. In total, Sandbeck has appeared in 237 games and tallied 36 goals, 55 assists for 91 points and 242 penalty minutes. His entire four-year professional career has been spent in the ECHL. Sandbeck will not be in the line up tonight as the Royals travel to Boardwalk Hall to tangle with first-place Atlantic City.

Markusen, 24, was acquired on December Long Beach on December 3rd. The North Dakota native appeared in 10 games with Reading and registered his first professional point (1a) in Texas on January 2 in Reading's 6-2 win. Overall, he has appeared in 11 professional games and recorded a plus-1 plus/minus rating.

The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
