Augusta Lynx News Release

Jason Saal moved into sole possession of second place in the ECHL's shutout pantheon on Friday night, stopping 27 shots for his 19th career shutout in a 4-0 win over the Columbia Inferno.

Augusta would stake their claim to the lead at the 8:14 mark of the first period on a Todd Bennett goal from Mike Sandbeck and Treavor Peterson to make it 1-0. Bennett took a wiggling puck and put it on the Inferno net, beating Mike Minard between the arm and the body for the lead.

No further scoring occurred until the third period, when Louis Goulet registered a power play goal at 6:41 from Jim Shepherd and Jamie Johnson to make it a 2-0 game. Johnson would notch his own marker by batting the puck out of midair by the Inferno net from Shepherd and Phil Cole at 11:07, and finally Matt Dzieduszycki added the final goal at 19:39 from Johnson and Sean Connolly for a 4-0 final. With the win, Augusta improves to 13-18-4 on the season.

The Lynx are back in action on Saturday night against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:35 pm.
