Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC – A whole year undefeated at home? That's a reality thus far for the Charlotte Checkers who extended their four-game home win streak Friday night against the Greenville Grrrowl. The Checkers 5-2 victory came as a result from the production of Charlotte's leading scorers, namely forwards Dusty Jamieson, Lee Falardeau, and Juris Stals.

"Our best players were better than their best players tonight," said Checkers Head Coach Derek Wilkinson following the game. That's saying a lot because Greenville has the league's leading scorer Carl Mallette, who has 44 points, and Martin St. Pierre who league's fourth highest assist total with 26.

Jamieson got the crowd on its feet early in the first period with his 11th goal on the season. As he fought off a Grrrowl defenseman who tied him up as he neared the net, Jamieson got off a spinning backhander to beat Grrrowl goalie Mike Brodeur. Jamieson added two assists, finishing with three points in game. Greenville tied it up seven minutes later on Brock Radunske's fifth goal of the season.

Falardeau added to his team leading goal total with his 13th of the season which proved to be the game-deciding goal at the end of the second. Stals, who assisted on Jamieson's goal, added a goal in the third. Eddie Pershin made the score 5-2 with his cross-ice, empty net shorty with four seconds remaining in the third period.

The win was not easy task. Charlotte played the last three and a half minutes a man down, but showed a lot of grit to pull out the victory and hard work to keep a raucous Charlotte crowd in the game.

"These guys have taken a lot of pride in it [playing at Cricket Arena]," said Wilkinson. "They're having a lot of fun here. They take pride in playing in front of their family and friends."

The victory puts the Checkers at 21-13-2 for 44 points. The Checkers next game is Saturday, January 15th at Cricket Arena against the Texas Wildcatters (6-21-7). This the fourth meeting between the teams, with the Checkers winning all three previous games.
