The Story:

The Winterhawks have had a habit of giving up goals in bunches lately, and on Friday, that habit bit them. Seattle took an early advantage with goals from Henrik Rybinski and Reid Schaefer separated by just over two minutes in the first period, then moved ahead by three after Sam Oremba's first of the year to close out the opening stanza.

Portland showed plenty of fight in the later frames, though, with a second-period strike on the power play by James Stefan kickstarting some belief amongst the visitors. Looking back, though, the Hawks will regret not capitalizing on more of their five power-play opportunities in the second period alone.

Despite the missed chances with the man advantage, Gabe Klassen pounced on a rebound early in the third to get the Hawks within one, but Tyrel Bauer responded for Seattle just over 90 seconds later to seal his team's victory.

Portland pays a visit to the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night before returning home for the start of an 11-game homestand at the VMC on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:

"It was a surreal moment finding out and then starting to pack my bags and finally getting down here for my first shift and solo lap. It was hard to take in because I was pumped."
