
Cougars Sign Forward Gavin Schmidt

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars have signed 2004-born forward Gavin Schmidt to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement, the team announced Saturday.
"Gavin has had a terrific start to his season in Okotoks and has taken on a leadership role on his Under-18 team," said Cougars' Director of Scouting Bob Simmonds. "He is a strong competitor and is a player you can play in multiple roles. He is a great addition to our depth upfront."
Schmidt, 17, is currently playing for the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers AAA in the Alberta Elite Hockey League. The De Winton, AB product is tied for first in team scoring with seven points (1g-6a) in 11 games. His six assists are a team best. Schmidt was drafted by the Cougars in 10th round, 202nd overall, in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft.
The 5'11" 160-pound forward has been called up on an emergency basis and is set to make his WHL debut tonight against the Kelowna Rockets.
With Schmidt called up, the Cougars' roster sits at 24 players: 14 forwards, eight defencemen, and two goaltenders.
