Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - The Edmonton Oil Kings (12-3-2-1) wrapped up their four-game Saskatchewan road strip on Saturday night with a come-from-behind 4-3 shootout win over the Moose Jaw Warriors (6-8-0-1) at Mosaic Place.

The Warriors got off to a quick start on home ice, opening the score just 4:22 into the game after rookie forward Brayden Yager stuffed home a rebound in front of Edmonton goaltender Kolby Hay.

The Oil Kings came close to levelling the score on a couple of occasions late in period; first, Jake Neighbours powered his way around the Warriors defence with a strong net-drive from the right-circle but couldn't beat Cart Tetachuk. Shortly after, Neighbours found Guenther in the right-wing circle where it looked like he was going to take the puck behind the net but then a quick move to his backhand created a goal-mouth scramble in the Moose Jaw crease, but the Oil Kings couldn't push the tying goal across the line and had to settle for a one-goal deficit after 20.

The Warriors extended their lead to two with another early period marker, this time getting a power play goal at 3:27 of the middle stanza as Martin Rysavy cashed in on scramble in front of Hay.

Just before the hallway point of the period, Jalen Luypen got the Oil Kings on the board as he wired home a wrist shot from the left-circle off a drop pass from Carter Souch for his second goal in as many games at 9:28 of the frame.

The Warriors responded quickly to restore their two-goal advantage as Daemon Hunt was able to sneak in a shot from the left half-wall of the Oil Kings zone to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Souch would start a third period comeback for the Oil Kings scoring just 13 seconds into the period after a pinballing puck found him in front of the Warriors net that he hammered in on a power play. Jacob Boucher would then tie the game to send it to overtime after re-directing an Ethan Peters point shot past Tetachuk at 9:27 of the third period.

Neither team could find the back of the net in overtime so off to the shootout they went, and in the skills competition, Hay shut the door for the Oil Kings stopping all five shots he faced and Simon Kubicek snapped home the winning goal in the fifth round.

Hay finished the night with 29 saves through regulation and overtime for his third straight win to start his WHL career, while Tetachuk made 34 saves. The Oil Kings went 1-for-1 on the power play, while the Warriors were 1-for-6.

Next up, the Oil Kings return home on Friday, November 19 for their annual United Against Cancer night, taking on the defending WHL champions, the Prince Albert Raiders at 7:00 P.M.
