Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - Dallyn Peekeekoot potted a pair of goals as the Prince Albert Raiders (6-9-0-1) picked up a 4-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos (5-8-2-1) on Saturday night at the Innovation Credit Union i-Plex.
The two goals were Peekeekoot's second and third goal of the season. Evan Herman and Tyson Laventure also scored for the Raiders in the win.
The Raiders got on the board first in a physical opening period. Ozzy Wiesblatt tipped the puck past a Broncos player to himself to start a three-on-two rush. The San Jose Sharks prospect sent a backhanded pass to Keaton Sorensen on the right wing. Sorensen hit Herman with a pass in the slot and the The Pas, Man. product went off the cross bar and in for his third goal of the season, making it 1-0 at the 5:58 mark.
Peekeekoot gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead with 7:23 left in the first. Zachary Wilson fought for a faceoff win to the left of the goal that went off a Broncos defender's skate. Peekeekoot pounced on the loose puck and his quick release beat Broncos goaltender Reid Dyck.
In the second, the Raiders extended their lead with a power-play goal. After Remy Aquilon was able to keep the puck in at the blueline, he sent it to the right point to Landon Kosior. The Regina product's point shot was tipped in front by Peekeekoot and past Dyck for his second of the game, giving the Raiders a 3-0 lead 1:38 into the second.
Carter Serhyenko kept it a three-goal game with a great save on a breakaway. Caleb Wyrostok was in all alone and tired to beat the Raiders netminder to the left post. Serhyenko was able to extend his leg to make the toe save.
Midway through the period, the Broncos got on the board with a power-play goal of their own. Rayan Bettahar got the puck out from behind the net to Josh Filmon in front. With all of the attention on Filmon, he sent it over to Owen Pickering who snapped it past a diving Serhyenko to make it a 3-1 game at the 9:01 mark of the second.
The Raiders shut the Broncos down in the third period, including a power play early in the frame. Sorensen, who slipped on the play, got his hand up to block a Sam McGinley point shot to deny a scoring chance.
With Dyck out of the goal for the extra attacker in the final minute, Laventure found the empty net from centre ice to round out the scoring at 4-1 with his fourth of the year.
Serhyenko stopped 15 shots to pick up his sixth win of the season. Dyck made 27 saves in the loss for the Broncos.
The Raiders are off until Friday night when they start a weekend trip to Alberta with a game against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Puck drop is 8 p.m. CST. Catch the game on WHL Live on CHL TV, or head to The Rock And Iron Club House or Original Joe's to watch.
The next Raiders' home game is on Wednesday, November 24 when the Moose Jaw Warriors visit the Art Hauser Centre. Game time is 7 p.m. CST. Tickets are available at the Raiders Office during working hours and any time online at SaskTix.ca.
