Saskatoon Blades News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - Alternate captain Tristen Robins scored the only goal for the Blades as the Winnipeg ICE downed Saskatoon 4-1 Saturday night at Wayne Fleming Arena.
The CHL's number one ranked team notched three third period markers to stretch their winning streak to five games, having lost just a single contest this season.
Saskatoon will have a second chance to one-up Winnipeg on Sunday, closing out a challenging three-in-three stretch through Manitoba.
San Jose Sharks prospect Robins pushed his season point total to a league-leading 28 on the year, however the Blue & Gold fall to 11-5-1-0 on the campaign.
Captain Aiden De La Gorgendiere also found the scoresheet, assisting on Robins 11th of the season.
Nolan Maier stopped 19 of 23 shots.
Winnipeg's Gage Alexander stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced to improve himself to 7-1-0-0 on the year.
A scoreless tie didn't last long into the middle period as only 15 seconds in, a feed from Winnipeg forward Connor McClennon found Matthew Savoie who went high on Maier to put the ICE up 1-0.
The Blades got one back on the powerplay 15 minutes later. A pass from De La Gorgendiere found Robins on the top of the left circle who walked in and put it just over the pad of Alexander to tie the game up at one after two periods of play.
Some Blades penalty trouble early in the third proved to be costly as a shot from Savoie created a scramble in front of Maier and the puck was eventually buried by Cole Muir to put the ICE back in front 2-1.
Shortly after, a cross-crease pass from Savoie found McClennon who slid it past the Blades netminder to make it a two-goal game.
The Blades pulled Maier for the extra attacker but the ICE capitalize on the empty net as Mikey Milne slid it into the open cage as Winnipeg defeated Saskatoon 4-1.
