THE STORY COMING IN
The Medicine Hat Tigers return to the ice after a six day break, having dropped their previous meeting by a score of 3-2 in overtime to the Moose Jaw Warriors. Ashton Ferster tipped home his second goal of the campaign and goaltender Beckett Langkow stopped 32 shots sent in his direction. Lukas Svejkovksy (PIT 2021) leads the Tabbies in scoring with 7 goals and 13 assists, while Latvian import defenceman Bogdans Hodass is second in team scoring with 13 points (2G, 11A).
TIGERS VS HITMEN
This will be the first meeting of the season between these two Central Division rivals. The Tigers were 4-1-0-1 against the Hitmen last season and have split the series over the last five seasons 8-8-1-1. The Tigers currently sit in 4th in the Central Division with a record of 4-6-2-1, while the Hitmen are in 6th spot with a record of 5-7-0-0.
The Tigers powerplay is the 8th best in the league, connecting on 11 of 49 (22.5%) opportunities. The Hitmen's powerplay has been abysmal through the first part of the season, scoring on 6 of 54 chances (11.1%) which puts their powerplay 2nd last in the WHL.
CALGARY HITMEN
The Calgary Hitmen come to Medicine Hat after having a dropped a 5-1 decision to the Swift Current Broncos. Riley Fidler-Schultz leads the Hitmen offensively this year with 15 points (6G, 9A) through 12 games played. Brayden Peters has started all 12 games for the Hitmen so far this year with a record of 5-7-0-0 and a 3.69 GAA to go with a .880 SV%
WHO TO WATCH - TIGERS
Bogdans Hodass came to Medicine Hat via Jelgava, Latvia. The 6'3" blue liners has adjusted to the North American game very well. Bogdans isn't afraid to activate off the back end and lead the rush and is solid defensively when marking some of the Western Hockey League's best forwards. Bogdans currently sits second on the Tigers in scoring and is continually making improvements to his game.
WHO TO WATCH - HITMEN
Forward Mason Finley is in his rookie season in the WHL and was Calgary's fifth round pick, 101st overall in the 2018 WHL Prospect Draft. The 17-year-old notched his first career point last weekend with an assist on November 5th against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
