First Period Blues

Three of the Hawks' last four games have seen them fall into early deficits. Kamloops, Vancouver and Seattle were able to light the lamp once, then pile up another couple of goals before Portland could really build an attack. In order for Portland to find a win to close out the road trip, the team's focus has to be on scoring first. The Hawks have shown their mettle with tenacious comeback bids as of late, but they'll find wins much easier to come by if they can play from in front.

Hot Stef

Each time the Hawks have needed a goal lately, James Stefan has been the man to come through for the team. With goals in three consecutive games and two assists in that span as well, there is no hotter Hawk than Stefan, and he'll look to lead Portland to its first regulation victory since the last time these two teams met on Oct. 16.

Alongside linemate Gabe Klassen, Stefan has driven play offensively with multiple shots on goal in each of his last six outings, including the season high-tying seven pucks he fired on Seattle netminder Thomas Milic last night. The Winterhawks will need more of the same from their second-leading scorer on Saturday night.

Head for Home With Good Vibes

This is the Winterhawks' last road game until Dec. 17, and you can bet they want to head into a long home stand with something to build on. Maybe no better team for the Hawks to play tonight than Tri-City. The Americans are winless in their last nine contests and they were shutout on Friday night in Everett, only mustering 14 shots on goal against the top team in the U.S. Division.

Tonight, Portland will also be facing a new Tri-City netminder now that Talyn Boyko has been traded to the Kelowna Rockets. So the key needs to be putting pressure on the opponents net early and often.

A win over a division rival sends the Hawks home with confidence abound and sets the tone for what's to come. Be sure to mark your calendars because the Winterhawks have an exciting November schedule coming up and it all begins on Tuesday night.
