Grizzlies Can't Catch Alaska

January 8, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL) - Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Alaska Aces defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-3 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.

Alaska led 1-0 after one period on a power-play goal.

After killing nearly four minutes shorthanded and trailing 1-0 for 20 minutes and 39 seconds, the Grizzlies tied things up at one as Michael Pelech broke up ice on a two-on-one. He pulled up in the circle, spun around and backhanded home his 16th goal of the year 11:18 into the second period. Alaska though regained the lead only 9 seconds later and made it 3-1 shorthanded with 5:28 left in period.

Utah made it 3-2 with 2:44 left in the third period on a Mike Colavecchia goal, but the Aces immediately came back and made it 4-2 at the second intermission.

The Grizzlies cut the lead to one 6:54 into the third period as Utah forced a turnover and Barry Almeida put the puck in the net for his fourth goal in four games and his seventh of the season from Pelech and Aubin.

Again, though Alaska came back to get their two goal lead back and held on for the win.

Daniel Spence replaced Ryan Faragher in goal for the third period.

The Grizzlies are home Friday and Saturday when they will host Stockton at 7 p.m. each night. Saturday is Star Wars Night and fans are invited to come in costume.
