
Eagles Outlast Thunder 3-2

LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (20-13-0-0) defeated the Stockton Thunder (13-23-1-0), 3-2, on Wednesday evening at the Budweiser Events Center to sweep the two-game series 2-0.
Stockton forward Tyler Maxwell scored the game's first goal on a shorthanded opportunity beating Eagles netminder Doug Carr, 5:02 into the first period, giving the Thunder the 1-0 lead. Forty seconds later Eagles forward Trent Daavettila tied the game, 1-1, with a rocket from between the circles. Colorado forward Brock Nixon gave the Eagles the 2-1 lead with a shorthanded snipe from the top of the circle, sneaking past Thunder netminder Kent Simpson, 8:38 into the first period. Maxwell tied the game 2-2, on the power play, giving him his second goal of the game, 9:36 into the first period.
After a scoreless second period, Nixon gave the Eagles the late-game lead, 3-2, with a breakaway goal 13: 20 into the third period, beating Simpson five-hole. After allowing two goals in the first period, Carr saved the final 18 shots of the game, not allowing another goal and securing the 3-2 victory for the Eagles.
