Royals Forward Cam Reid Selected to ECHL All-Star Team
January 8, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Cam Reid has been selected to represent the Royals at the 2015 CCM / ECHL All-Star Classic in Orlando, Florida, presented by Visit Orlando.
This season's All-Star Classic includes a wide variety of events and activities for everyone, including an All-Star Fan Fest, presented by Walgreen's, with player appearances, interactive game, prizes, giveaways, auctions, memorabilia, and a special Hockey Hall of Fame exhibit, all of which will be held on Tuesday, January 20. On Wednesday, January 21, the day's events include the ECHL Hall of Fame Luncheon and the 2015 CCM / ECHL All-Star Classic presented by Visit Orlando.
Reid (6'3/207) (23), a third year pro from Tsawwassen, Delta, British Columbia, has scored a team-leading twelve goals and assisted on sixteen others (twenty-eight points) in thirty-two games with the Royals this season. Reid, who ran off a team-long eleven game point streak (6g-8a14pts) (fourth longest in the league this season) from October 24 through November 11, leads the Royals with four 'first goals,' which include the opening goal in last night's 5-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers, during which Reid played to a plus-3 (+3). Reid has also notched three game winners (second most on the team) this year, including back-to-back GWGs in the Royals' wins on December 20 in Evansville and December 26 in Elmira. His dramatic game winner in Evansville on December 20 broke a 3-3 tie with just 1:24 remaining in regulation. Reid, who has nine points (5g-4a) in his last nine games, has registered seven multi-point performances this season for Reading four of which have come in his last seven games.
Reid split last season between the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League and the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. While with the Monsters, he scored two goals and assisted on two others (2g-2a4pts) in thirteen AHL games. During his time in the CHL, Reid ended up with twenty-three points (8g-15a) and fourteen penalty minutes in thirty-six games for the Cutthroats, who advanced all the way to the Ray Miron President's Cup CHL Championship Finals before being knocked off by the Allen Americans. During the sixteen game playoff run, Reid racked up thirteen playoff points (4g-9a13pts), which was fourth on the team in post-season scoring.
A seventh round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2009, Reid began his pro career in 2012-13 with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL where he picked up eight points (2g-6a) in eleven games. However, Reid spent most of his rookie season in AHL, principally with the Milwaukee Admirals for whom he racked nineteen points (3g-16a) in fifty-four regular season games.
Prior to turning pro, Reid played a season-and-a-half of college hockey at St. Cloud State University. In his freshman year, Reid was third on the team in scoring with twenty-nine points (8g-21a) in thirty-seven games. But in January of his sophomore season, Reid elected to leave school and join the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. While with Portland, Reid registered thirty-two points (13g-19a) in thirty-one regular season games. In the post-season that year, the Winterhawks advanced all the way to the WHL finals before being knocked off in an epic seven game battle with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
