Gladiators Celebrate 1,000,000th Fan Saturday

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they will be celebrating their 1,000,000th fan to the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday, January 19th when they host the Mississippi Sea Wolves. As the Gladiators celebrate their fifth anniversary season, the team has welcomed over 200,000 fans during each of the first four seasons in Gwinnett.

In addition, Saturday night is one of the Gladiators most popular promotions, the annual Backpack Giveaway courtesy of Peggy Slappey Properties. The first 2,000 kids ages 12 and under will receive a special Fifth Anniversary Gladiators backpack at the game. In addition to Peggy Slappey Properties, the annual backpack give away is presented by Charter Communications, the Gwinnett Daily Post and 104.7 FM The Fish.

Contrary to popular practice, however, the organization has no plans to single out one specific fan for the team's one millionth fan. Since it is nearly impossible to pinpoint the exact one millionth fan anywhere, the Gladiators will be giving everyone who attends Saturday's game an opportunity to be crowned the 1,000,000th Gladiators fan and win a bevy of great prizes.

Every fan that walks through the doors on Saturday night will get a chance to enter the millionth fan drawing simply by filling out an entry card and turning it in before the start of the second period. Then, during the second intermission, the winners will be brought down to ice level for a special fan presentation ceremony.

Drawing one million fans in less than five seasons is one of the more impressive feats that the Gladiators have accomplished and they have the fans to thank most of all. The team wants to let all the fans that have helped them get to this historic milestone celebrate as well. That is exactly the plan for the game against the Mississippi Sea Wolves this Saturday.

The Grand Prize winner will receive a three-day/two-night trip for two to Las Vegas courtesy of Harrah's. The prize will include two night's accommodations at Harrah's Resort and Casino in Las Vegas as well as airfare from Atlanta and a millionth fan Gladiators team jersey.

Other prizes will include a bed and breakfast getaway to Chateau Elan, a weekend at Lake Lanier Islands Resort, a golf getaway and stay at Reynolds Plantation, gift cards from Kroger and RaceTrac, one night in a Bunker Suite at a Gladiators game complete with catering courtesy of Proof of the Pudding and an autographed fifth anniversary Gladiators jersey.

The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Thursday, January 17th as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers at 7:05 p.m. at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Catch all the play-by-play action in Thursday's game online via AccessNorthGa.com on Access radio streaming channel 3.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
