ECHL Idaho Steelheads

An AHL shot with a twist please

January 15, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced that goaltender Kellen Briggs has been called up to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Rockford is the AHL affiliate to the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and ECHL Pensacola Ice Pilots.

The twist is Rockford travels to Iowa for two games this weekend, and if he's in net, former Steelheads teammates Briggs and goalie Steve Silverthorn, could both be playing - against each other. Silverthorn was recalled to Iowa from Idaho last week.

The call up is the first for the 24-year-old rookie netminder. With numerous awards from the University of Minnesota, he ended his career with 84 wins and a school record 13 shutouts.

Briggs, 5-1 and 195-pounds, has appeared in 17 games with Idaho this season and 10-5-1 record, and a 1.97 goals-against average and .932 save percentage.

The Steelheads are home for two games against rival Alaska this weekend. Tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
