Augusta Lynx News Release

It was a tough first visit for the Augusta Lynx to Charleston to face the Stingrays on Tuesday. The Stingrays scored early and often, scoring three 1st period goals.

The Lynx got off to a flying start the first couple of shifts, but penalties would cost the Lynx. On their first power play of the night, the Stingrays struck for a 1-0 lead off the stick of Matt Reid, who's snap shot found its way past the low blocker side of #30 Bobby Goepfert. The Stingrays second power play netted a second goal, as a shot from the point from Marty Guerin tipped off a Lynx glove and bounced past Goepfert. The Lynx went down 3-0 as Grant McNeill's shot from the point deflected off a Lynx shinpad and past Goepfert. The 2nd period didn't get any better for the Lynx. The best chance of the period was a #16 Chase Watson shot that deflected off the crossbar, but South Carolina would score two more. Travis Morin made in 4-0 with a goal down low, and Scott Romfo made it 5-0 as his shot from the point went again off a Lynx player and past Goepfert.

The Lynx did break Josh Johnson's shutout bid with 4:25 to go in the game as #19 Aaron Slattengren scored his league-leading 28th goal of the year with help from #17 Jeremy Schenderling and #9 Louis Goulet. However, the 'Rays made the rest hold up for a 5-1 win.

The 'Rays moved into 2nd place in the South Division with the win and have taken 2 out of three games this season so far from the Lynx.
