Trenton Devils News Release

WHEELING, WV (January 15, 2008) - The Trenton Devils played perfect hockey on both ends of the ice as they finished their road trip on a high note, defeating the Wheeling Nailers 2-0. The Devils rewarded Dave Caruso's 30-save effort with a Matt Rogers tally in the 47th minute of action, and Rogers would score another en route to Caruso's second shutout of the season.

Caruso stopped several big scoring opportunities for the Nailers, keeping the Devils in a game which threatened to go either way. The second-year netminder stopped a two-on-none breakaway with a strong split to the side of the post and captained the Devils defense through five penalty kills, including a 5-on-3 which lasted for 1:43.

Matt Rogers got the Devils on the board with the deciding goal 7:43 into the third period. Picking up the puck from Jim Henkel in the near corner, Rogers gained position in the crease and wailed away at Curtis Darling's pads. His second shot found the side of the net for the game-winner. Tony Zancanaro would also assist on the play.

Rogers would get the second goal of the game on an empty-netter with 1:04 remaining, flicking the puck from a wide-angle into the far post. Evan Shaw and Dave Caruso gained assists on the shot, the first for Caruso and second for Shaw this season.

The Devils' top line of Henkel, Zancanaro, and Rogers put 17 shots on net; Trenton as a whole launched 44 at the Wheeling goal.

With the win Trenton puts some space between them and Wheeling for fifth place in the North Division. They also cut Dayton's lead for 4th to eight points.

The Trenton Devils return home for the first time in over two weeks, when they host the Reading Royals at Sovereign Bank Arena this Friday, January 18 at 7:30pm. Tune into WTSR 91.3 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
