Falcons Moreland Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Jake Moreland of the Fresno Falcons is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 7-13.

The 6-foot-2 and 190-pound netminder was 3-0-0 with a shutout, a 0.98 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage as the Falcons went 3-0-0 last week and extended their winning streak to six games to stay in second place in the Pacific Division while moving into fourth place in the National Conference.

After registering his third consecutive overtime win at division rival Las Vegas making 35 saves in a 2-1 win on Jan. 8, Moreland turned aside 21 shots in a 5-2 win against Phoenix on Jan. 11. The Grand Forks, N.D. native ended the week by stopping all 24 shots in a 6-0 win against Phoenix for his first shutout of the season and the ninth of his professional career.

The 28 year old is 5-0-0 with three overtime wins, a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.77 and a save percentage of .933 in his last five starts, improving to 11-3-1 overall with a 2.66 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 16 games for the Falcons.

The fifth-year professional is 45-31-14 with seven shutouts, a 2.70 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage in 99 regular season ECHL games with Atlantic City and Stockton. He is 2-0 with a 1.68 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage in two Kelly Cup Playoff games helping Atlantic City win the Kelly Cup in 2003.

Moreland has played in the American Hockey League where he is 1-1-0 with a 1.38 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage in two regular season games with Worcester in 2003-04 and 1-1 with a 2.81 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in two playoff games for Milwaukee in 2005-06.

He played four seasons at St. Cloud State from 1999-2003 and was 26-17-1 with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.77 and a save percentage of .902.
