
Gladiators Beat Lynx in Shootout, 5-4

Rick Emmett and Chris Durno scored shootout goals while Sean Fields did not allow a single Augusta player to score in the shootout to help the Gladiators to a 5-4 shootout win over the Lynx on Saturday night in Augusta.
The Gladiators jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Lynx with two goals 66 seconds apart half way through the first period. Jeff Campbell flipped the puck off the back of Augusta netminder Jason Saal and into the net to give the Gladiators 1-0 lead 8 minutes into the first period. Kris Goodjohn and Chris Durno cycled the puck in the corner with Campbell to add the assists on the goal.
Mike Stathopoulos pushed the Gladiators lead to 2-0 a little over a minute later jamming home a loose puck past Saal. Adam Sawruk collected his first professional point on the play as he picked up an assist. Mike Vigilante also had an assist on the goal at 9:06 of the opening period.
Augusta got on the board with 3:31 remaining in the opening period. Jim Shephard knocked home a rebound that he picked up in the slot past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields. John Cronin and Jamie Johnson added the assists on the goal for the Lynx.
Eric Johansson tied the game at 2-2 with a goal on a Lynx 5-on-3 power play midway through the second period. Louis Goulet and Jamie Johnson added the assists on the goal for the Lynx at 11:13 of the period.
Augusta took a 3-2 lead on a goal by Goulet 2:31 into the third period. Jamie Johnson and Rod Sarich added the assists on the go ahead goal.
Rick Emmett's power lay goal at 8:03 of the third period on a slap shot from the point tied the game at 3-3. Chris Durno added an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.
Augusta regained the lead late in the third period on a Gladiators defensive breakdown. Johansson was able to capitalize and whack the puck past Fields at 18:23 of the third period. Cronin and Bennett add the assists on the third period tally.
Brad Schell tied the game up at 4-4 with 36 seconds left in the third period with Fields pulled at the other end of the ice. Schell found the loose puck and pushed it past Saal for the goal. Durno and Campbell added the assists on the goal.
Sean Fields made 31 saves in the win for the Gladiators who improve to 17-9-4 on the season in the win. Gwinnett went 1-for-7 on the man advantage in the victory.
