Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, Ill. (January 6, 2005) – The ECHL announced today that rookie defenseman James Sanford has been selected to represent the Peoria Rivermen as part of the National Conference squad in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, Pa., on Wednesday, January 26 at the Sovereign Center.

National Conference coaches submitted the top prospects from within their conference that determined the final roster with each of the 16 teams in the National Conference having a representative. The starting lineups were determined in voting by coaches, team captains, media relations directors, broadcasters and newspaper writers.

Sanford – a 5-foot-10, 190-pound native Alma, New Brunswick – is currently on reassignment with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League (AHL), posting a power play goal in his first AHL game in a 4-1 road win for the Bulldogs over the St. John's Maple Leafs on Tuesday. The 20-year-old backliner collected 11 points (2g, 9a) in 24 games with the Rivermen to open his rookie season. He was reassigned to Peoria from the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies by the NHL's Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Jason Notermann on October 21, just a day before the season opened.

Prior to signing a two-way (AHL/ECHL) contract with Montreal on October 8, Sanford was invited on a try-out to Montreal's Annual Rookie Camp & Tournament, where he finished with two assists in three games before his reassignment to Hamilton. He spent the majority (three and a half years) of his four-year Major Junior "A" career with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), collecting 181 points (55g, 126a) and 456 penalty minutes (PIM) in 231 career games.

The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL – The Premier "AA" Hockey League. On Friday, January 7 and Saturday, January 8, the Rivermen stop in Las Vegas to do battle with the Wranglers. Game times are 9:00 p.m. at the Orleans Arena. Brand new 6-game & 3-game ticket plans are available for the remainder of the 2004-2005 season for just $99 and $48 per seat, respectively, by calling the Rivermen at 309.676.1040 x106.
