Bertoli Keys Titans' 5-2 Win Over Chiefs
January 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
JOHNSTOWN, PA (January 7, 2005) - Scott Bertoli scored his first hat trick of the year to help the Trenton Titans to a 5-2 victory over the Johnstown Chiefs in front of 1,885 at Cambria County War Memorial.
Connor Dunlop drew first blood 5:05 into the contest when he put his own rebound past David Cann for a 1-0 Trenton edge. The Titans were able to give themselves 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission thanks to power play goals by Rick Kowalsky and Scott Bertoli, as Cann was chased from his net after one period.
In the second stanza, it was the Chiefs who tallied a power play goal of their own when Joe Tallari beat Chris Houle for his eleventh of the season to make the score 3-1.
Johnstown further cut Trenton's lead to just one goal as Steve Hildenbrand forced a turnover at the blueline and fired a wrist shot inside the near post at 3:02 of the third period.
From there it was all Bertoli. Twice, the six-year pro took face-off wins and beat David Currie to help the Titans re-stake their three-goal lead.
Houle stopped 26 of 28 shots to raise his record to 9-4-1. The Titans went for 2-for-5 with the man advantage and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill as they are now 5-1-0 versus the Chiefs this season.
