Two Chiefs Named To All-Star Team

January 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA- The ECHL announced today the roster for the National Conference all-star team for the 2005 Coors Light/ECHL All-Star Game to be held on January 26th, at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. Johnstown Chiefs forward Brent Kelly has been named to the starting lineup and rookie center Jean Desrochers will also be on the team.

Kelly, 23, was loaned to the AHL' s Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday. He leads the Chiefs and is tenth in the ECHL in scoring this season with 11 goals and 30 points in 27 games. He was fifth in scoring with Johnstown last season, scoring 25 goals and 50 points in 68 games. The Kitchener, Ontario native played the entire 2002-2003 season in the AHL with the now defunct Saint John Flames. Kelly becomes the first Chiefs player that is not a goaltender to get named to the all-star starting lineup since 2000 when defenseman Derrick Walser and forward Joel Irving represented the team in Greenville, SC.

"For the last year and a half Brent Kelly has been one of the top players in the league. This is a great honor for him and a great opportunity to showcase his talent. He is an AHL player that has almost fell victim to the NHL lockout," said Chiefs Head coach and Director of Hockey operations Toby O'Brien.

Desrochers, 24, is second on the team in scoring this season with 10 goals and 25 points in 27 games. He leads all ECHL rookies with four game winning goals. The 6'2, 225 LBS native of Dalhousie, Quebec played the last four seasons at Clarkson University. In 111 career games with Clarkson, Desrochers had 16 goals and 44 points.

"Jean is very deserving of this honor. He has been working extremely hard since day one this season and is always one of the last players to leave the ice each day. He has some unbelievable skill and even more improvement is on the horizon. The entire Chiefs organization is very proud of Jean and his accomplishments in his rookie season," O'Brien added.

The Chiefs are back in action with three home games in three nights. Friday night (7:00 p.m.) they host the Trenton Titans. Saturday night (7:00 p.m.) the Bakersfield Condors and Sunday afternoon at 3:00p.m. the Reading Royals.

Sunday's game is Heluva Good Quality Food's Kid's Sunday. All Children's tickets (12 and under) are just $1. Following the game there will be a "Skate With the Chiefs," and autograph session with the entire team. Skate rentals will not be available. It will also be season ticket holder redemption day. Season ticket holders with any unused tickets may exchange them for an equal amount of tickets for the game. Redemption day is a great opportunity to introduce friends and family to Chiefs hockey. For tickets call (814) 536-5156 or 1-800-CHF-TIXX.
