Pensacola, FL For the 2nd game in a row, the Louisiana IceGators gave up 7 goals in a game, falling to the Pensacola Ice Pilots 7-4 in "The Hangar" on Friday night.
A wild first period resulted in 7 total goals as Pensacola led 4-3 after the first 20 minutes. Mark Rooneem (3) opened the scoring at 2:37 as his wrist shot from the left circle beat Frederic Cloutier for the early lead. The Ice Pilots responded with two goals 13 seconds apart as Aaron Phillips (3) scored off a turnover at 3:57, followed at 4:10 by a Ryan Vince (8) wrist shot to give the lead to the home team. At 11:28 Cam Keith (8) increased the Pilots' lead to 3-1. The Gators struck back at 14:32 as rookie Roger Leonard slammed home a rebound for his 2nd of the season and a 3-2 deficit. Just 27 seconds later, at 14:59, David Bararuk tied the score at 3 with a wrist shot from the slot, high over the blocker of Cloutier for his 9th of the year. The Pilots closed out the scoring when Chris St. Jacques (6) scored on a rebound at 16:03 to give Pensacola a one goal lead. The Ice Pilots out shot the Gators 20-12.
Pensacola increased the lead to 6-3 on 2nd period goals by Jordan Krestanovich (9) and Alex Materukhin (6.) Krestanovich scoring on a power play at 10:33 and Materukhin scoring his first as an Ice Pilot at 18:30.
The two teams traded power play goals in the 3rd period, as Randy Dagenais (7) tallied for the Gators and Tyler Beechey (16) countered for the Pilots who win by a final of 7-4. Louisiana falls to 14-14-3 and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot 42-39, power plays were 1-5 for the Gators and 2-6 for the Ice Pilots. The Gators and Pilots will hook up again tomorrow night at 7:05pm in Pensacola.

Friday, January 14, 2005 NASCAR Night, Gators vs. Sea Wolves 7:05pm:
The ONLY home game of the month in on January 14, when the Gators host the Mississippi Sea Wolves on NASCAR night. Dale Earhardt Jr's #8 race car will be on display during the game. Pictures can be taken with the car for $10, net proceeds to benefit St. Jude's hospital. The Gators will be wearing special "NASCAR" jerseys which will auctioned off after the game.
