
Radio Broadcasters Named For Coors Light All-Star Game

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Friday announced that Tom Callahan of
the Augusta Lynx, John Michael of the Johnstown Chiefs and Dan
Weiss of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies have been selected as
announcers for the audio broadcast of the 2005 Coors Light ECHL
All-Star Game.
The audio broadcast is produced by NHL Radio and will feature a
play-by-play announcer, a color commentator and a roving reporter who will
be ice level interviewing participants and others involved with the
All-Star Game as well as representatives from the American Hockey League
and the National Hockey League.
The live audio play-by-play will be broadcast worldwide on the Internet by
Yahoo! Events, marking the seventh consecutive year that Yahoo! has carried
the ECHL All-Star Game audio live. The live broadcast will begin at 6:45
p.m. ET and the broadcast will be available through on-demand for one year.
The audio broadcast will be carried live in Reading on WIOV ESPN Radio 1240
AM and on tape delay at 7 p.m. PT in Las Vegas on 920-KBAD. The audio
broadcast was offered free of charge to all ECHL teams and additional
stations will be announced as they are added.
Tom Callahan, Augusta Lynx
Tom Callahan is in his second season as director of broadcasting and public
relations for Augusta and is in his sixth season in professional hockey.
Prior to joining the Lynx, Callahan spent three years as the play-by-play
voice for Elmira in the United Hockey League and also broadcast an American
Hockey League game for Syracuse. He has also covered the National Junior
College hockey national championships, worked on regional for the former
TNT "Motorsports" and spent two seasons covering Elmira baseball. A native
of Lackawanna, N.Y., Callahan received his bachelor's degree in
communications/journalism and history from St. John Fisher College.
John Michael, Johnstown Chiefs
John Michael is in his second season as play-by-play broadcaster for the
Chiefs. Michael received his degree in mechanical engineering from the
University of Notre Dame where he returned to earn both his law degree and
MBA degree. Michael worked for more than four years as a trial attorney at
Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Pittsburgh before becoming the play-by-play voice
for the Hagerstown (Maryland) Suns, a minor league affiliate of the San
Francisco Giants. Michael continues to broadcast baseball, basketball,
football and hockey games for the Pittsburgh-based MSA Sports Network which
has over 40 affiliates in Western Pennsylvania.
Dan Weiss, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies
Dan Weiss is in his second season as public relations and broadcasting
manager for Atlantic City, overseeing public and media relations including
promotional and community appearances as well as serving as the "Voice of
the Bullies". A native of Houston, Weiss was the director of public
relations and media broadcasting for Corpus Christi of the Central Hockey
League in 2002-03 while also creating and hosting the first daily local
sports talk show in South Texas in three years. Before joining Corpus
Christi, Weiss was the play-by-play voice for Northeastern University
hockey in Boston.
